buffer level suddenly jumpy

a few days ago everything was fine i burn dvd-rs/cdrs at 4x/max buffer doesn't jump or anything... but i donno wut happen now i burn something it's only burning at 1.3x and the buffer is all jumpy and stuff wut's wrong with my computer... i don't think i changed any settings or anything and im using the same media and everything.....
my computer has lots of memory and free space as well.... so i really dont get wut's going on.. plz help solve this prob.

Check to make sure your writer is still set to DMA. XP seems to have the occasional problem with reseting it to PIO.

Control Panel>System>Device Manager>IDE controllers (Primary and Secondary)>Properties>Advanced Settings, DMA if available

oh i just tried setting it to DMA if available and restarted the computer

is still on DMA if available
but below it.. it says "Current Mode - PIO only"

wut do i do? uninstall the hardware and let it detect again?

Yep that normally works
There is a registry hack that I posted b4 (for XP only) can't remember at the mo - or you could search my old posts.
