  1. I have a Powerbook G4, OS X.2.3 laptop.

After re-orienting my DVD drive to read different region-coded DVDs only 5 times, DVD Player and my DVD drive locked my computer into playing only discs from Region 0 (all-region) and Region 4 (Latin America).

This sucks because it's my legal right to view any DVD, and I buy them from all over the world.

My Desktop G4 allows VLC software to play as many DVDs of different region codes as I like. But I started using VLC on my desktop before DVD Player re-oriented for the 5th time.

How can I cure my laptop and get VLC to work on any DVD?

I tried completely wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Mac OS X plus all the software with no luck.

    Am I totally screwed?

I think there is a utility out there, I'm sure someone else will respond with name and link.

You can also rip your non-region 4 discs to your hard drive for viewing. Mactheripper 2 will do this for you ... Around 30 minutes for a full dual-layer DVD on my 667Mhz TiBook. MTR doesnt need Apple DVD Player to get the key off the disc, and your rip will be region free.

Not sure what drive you have in there but go look at http://forum.rpc1.org/ and look at the downloads section on the home page you will need to know the drive specs so you know what to flash it with.
