Hi. I have installed Toast 6.0, thinking that my Pb 12 867Mhz with Mitshita 815-J superdrive, while unable to burn dvd-rw discs with Finder etc would be able to do so with Toast. But the drive rejects these with Toast installed just as before and there's no preferences in Toast that allow me to tell the drive to accept the dvd-rw disc. This was one of my prinicipal attractions to buying Toast and I have heard it on this forum as well as Apple discusions.

Do I have to install firmware for this happen which entails risks I see, or can I do this someway in Toast that I am unable to see?

    Thanks,

What's the number on your drive again? 815-J sounds a bit strange - you sure it isnt a UJ-815A?

It's possible that Apple's firmware for that drive does not support DVD-RW burning. You can look it up in Apple System Profiler. If this is the case, go to xlr8yourmac.com and look up your drive in the user database. You may find info on unsupported firmware updates that will enable DVD-RW burning on your drive.

Sorry, my drive is Matshita UJ-815. Is firmware my only hope? i've heard about the risks involved etc. such as apple voids the warranty on my computer, less than a year old, if they see that the firmware has been installed. have any of you all tried the firmware and seen its results? i've gone to cynikal's website and read all the q&a but am still not wholly convinced. the site has not only the firmware needed for dvd-rw but also the original apple firmware for the drive, so if need be i could always reinstall the apple f.w. but i still have a lack of exposure to people who may have actually installed the firmware and their assessment of the computer afterwards.
    thanks a bunch,
