  1. If you don't care about file size, why do you compress, and what is the best way to retain the original with only 1 file?

MPEG is compression. I compress because it's the requirement of the DVD format.

  4. I compress to DivX because I can fit three or four films onto one DVD-R to take to uni. I'm not taking all my DVDs - they're too nickable. Same with my CDs - I compressed them all to Vorbis.

It's space-saving, and money-saving since I don't need to worry about insuring it all.

  6. It's actually cheaper to insure my PC than a whole load of DVDs. I locked it down anyway - if anyone had wanted to steal it, they'd have had to take the plumbing with it!

Free PC AND free plumbing?! where do you study again....?

Would there be anything to stop a thief taking off the side panel, pinching the innards and then replacing the side panel?
