If you don't care about file size, why do you compress, and what is the best way to retain the original with only 1 file?

MPEG is compression. I compress because it's the requirement of the DVD format.

I compress to DivX because I can fit three or four films onto one DVD-R to take to uni. I'm not taking all my DVDs - they're too nickable. Same with my CDs - I compressed them all to Vorbis.
It's space-saving, and money-saving since I don't need to worry about insuring it all.

It's actually cheaper to insure my PC than a whole load of DVDs. I locked it down anyway - if anyone had wanted to steal it, they'd have had to take the plumbing with it!
