  1. Before I get into my problems, i'll let you know that I use Fuji dvd-r's, rip using dvd decrypter, compress and burn with Clonedvd, and have a plextor 708-A burner.

When I first started burning dvd's a few months ago, I noticed that a few would start blocking and skipping towards the end. I thought this may be due to the memorex dvd's I was using, so I switched to Fuji. The problems continued, so I switched from playing the dvd's on my playstation 2 to using a Toshiba dvd player. However, now some of the movies continue to skip towards the end, and some now skip about a half hour in. I slowed down the burn speed to 2x, and still have problems. My friend mentioned something about copy protection, when record labels put errors on cd's to keep them from being copied, could this be a problem? Also, would using the ISO method help at all if the issue is with the media?

What I find most confusing is how hit and miss each movie is. For instance, movies that didn't work in the Playstation work w/ the Toshiba, and some that don't work with the Toshiba played fine with the Playstation. Sometimes a movie will have blocking problems one day, then work fine the next time I use it. From what i've been reading on this site, it sounds like a problem with the media, but I've switched media once already, and the media i've been using is listed as compatible with the dvd players i've used.

    Thanks for your help

Yeah, Fuji media ought to work fine with that Plextor, but it's always possible to get a bad batch.

What dye is being used on the discs? Download DVD Info Pro and run it to find out...

    Which Fuji's? Ritek G03, ProdiscS03, or TYG01.

TYG01> Look for input/output problems with your computer. Make sure your buffer levels are always full, and buffer under-run doesn't engage. Defrag your HD if needed.

Ritek G03> Could problems above, as well as Plextor not writing well to these discs, try another brand.

    Prodisc> Same as above.

BTW, Memorex also uses Prodisc as an OEM on some batches, so if you had a problem with Memorex Prodisc, you'd have the same problem with Fuji Prodisc.

The "GOOD" Fuji's are sold in Jewel Cases (5-10 count) and never cake boxes.

Ritek G03 is only a 1x disc, though most burners default to 2x writing. It has been proven that these perform best at a 1x writing speed, though you may find a golden batch that does great at 2x.

Try some other media. Walmart has a decent price on Maxell and Verbatim media, or if you have a store near you that also sells TDK or Fuji 4x in the 5-10 packs, you can try these also. An online store will most likely give you better prices in bulk buys. Rima has TY 4x for ~1.10/each, and shoperwiz and page computers have Maxell for ~$1.05/each. You have an 8x writer, why not take advantage of it. 4x Taiyo Yuden and 4x Verbatim media will burn flawless at 8x with your Plextor.

If you'd rather buy from a local store, in most cases DVD+R media doesn't have the, this or that OEM, problem that DVD-R media has. But with out bitsetting, it's a touch and go situation if the disc will load at all in your players. Best to stick with TDK, Verbatim, Maxell, or Made in Japan Jewel Cased Fuji Film, DVD-R.
