If someone could please help, I been racking my brain all day. Here's the deal:
I am trying to burn some MPEG files I have to DVD so it will play on my Standalone player. Well so far I keep getting disc error messages. I can't figure it out.
I have used the following programs to do this:
Tmpgenc DVD Author
CyberLink Disc Wizard
Ulead DVD Movie Factory
I have used all of these programs & have tried using thier burning software with no luck. I have also tried creating disc images & DVD Folders with these programs, no luck either. I then put the VIDEO_TS files into NERO... here I Have tried burning in DVDVideo mode & UDF mode. Still No go. I then just out frustration, ran the files through DVD shrink... It read them all fine, but i did notice that the Audio said either PCM or MPEG AUDIO. Not sure if this has anything to do with this or not. But I let Shink burn it and again still no go. I dont understand. I am using the same DVD+RW brand that I have used in the past & some that I have used & erased. My DVD-ROM drive wont even read them after the burn, only the DVD burner. And just to eliminate the idea of it being my burner I backed up a movie using DVD shrink, put it in my player & it played flawless. I tell ya folks i am stumped... Throw me some info please!!! lol
BTW my dvd player plays everything I throw in it except these homemade DVD's as of recent, they playe before.

OK I figured out that my DVD+RW's are shot, I burmed my compilation to a DVD+R, but the only problem now is Not all my videos has sound. Anyone help me wit this one??? I used Tmpgenc DVD Author & created menus & chapters, all the chapters work fine as do the menus, just not all the videos has sound. Is this a problem with the MPEG's I chose?? Someone please help before I go bald. LOL

Did they have audio and play fine before you created your TDA project?
-
They play fine on my PC & my DVD-ROM Drive, just not my Stand alone players nor the neighbors. I used besweet and created and AC3 audio file and used it rather than the MPEG's audio. Same thing, is it possible the MPEG's I am using has wrong audio configuration??? If so how do i fix it?
Father knows best. -
try with mp2 or wav audio instead. besweet and ffmpeggui does not create compliant ac3s. or use another ac3 encoder like the tmpgenc dvd author ac3 plugin.

I will get back to you when I try this Baldrick in the mean time can u recommend a good reliable DVD+RW brand to use, I have Phillips and didnt get many (RE)Writes out of them. 1,000 times by butt lol

Baldrick, what is the best way to convert to wav or mp2??
Father knows best. -
Open your video in virtualdub, go to audio--> full processing mode and then go to audio -->extract wav and you will have your .wav file.

I have done that XL3/\/7 & ran the file through TDA & still my standalone players wouldnt play, any particular settings???

Just curious, how do I use tmpgenc dvd author ac3 plugin?? I want to try this method.

OK I am ready to shoot some hardware LOL. Here's the deal:
I have used ffmpegGUI to create AC3 file & mp2 files. Tried both in Tmpgenc DVD Author.. no probs with authoring & burning. No problem playing on my PC's DVD-ROM... but when I play on my standalone PLayers, NO AUDIO... ERRRRR. I then used virtualdub and go to audio--> full processing mode and then go to audio -->extract wav tried putting the wav file in TDA, no luck in standalone player. What am I doing wrong?? Is it TDA or what???? Is it possible it's some of the MPEGs I have captured could have been captured wrong?? Some work & some don't. I am using ATI MMC 8.8. Someone please help!!!!!!Father knows best. -
First of all : make a new project starting from scracht to try to track the problem;
Make a new TV capture getting audio in **LPCM** format - DON'T CONVERT IT;
Set your capture sw to get audio as LPCM, maybe its default is MP2 and if you try later to convert to WAVE you're asking for problems, specially at this point that you're almost going insane !! :P :P
Use whatever tool to author it without converting its format, keep audio as LPCM, and test on stand-alone - it might work;
So, you'll realize you have a defective WAVE to AC3 process. If you're trying NTSC DVD, *F-O-R-G-E-T* MP2 audio as it's a PAL standard, NOT NTSC !!!!
If I've guesses correctly, your DVD will play with LPCM audio and won't play with audio converted through the process you've been currently using, so you might check it;
Ulead Video Studio 8 has just gotten an AC3 plug-in, GET IT and let it do the job of converting from WAVE to AC3, or maybe better it can indeed capture in AC3 format. I haven't tested it and I'm no Ulead related, but they use to do good stuff;

Odd thing, if I choose Bilingual (2 Channel) In TDA, the DVD works if i hit the audio button a couple of times on Standalone remotes. What can I do to capture a good MPEG so that I can burn a compliant DVD that will play sound without me pressing any buttons other than play. Can someone please explain to me whats going on.

Later, use ANOTHER TOOL (forget all crap you're using now !) to convert the LPCM to WAVE, options :
- SoftEncode
- TDA AC3 plug-in (in authoting step)
- Ulead Video Studio 8 plug-in
Another option, faster, is to capture audio ALREADY as AC3, but note that ATI MMC (it sucks, forget it, it's too bad !) doesn't make it;
Options :
- Nero Vision Express
- Ulead Video Studio 8 (I am not sure if capture as AC3 or only convert to it when creating the final video file....);
- WinDVR
Free tools doesn't make decent AC3, you'll have to spend $ome, Nero costs just $ 60
By any means : DON'T USE MP2 AUDIO, it's NOT NTSC compliant !

In case you buy a new ATI card, don't use MMC, it drops frames when compared to Ulead (tested that myself with the same VHS tapes) and crashes a lot on some systems, which means it is buggy,
Good sw can't crash considering the user has fullfilled all its "system requirements";

Zetti I wanted to upgrade my capture card anyway. Can u recommend a good caputre card at a fair price & also how do you capture with Nero Vision Express??? I have version 6.

But for transfering VHS tapes, it's perfect;
Nero Vision ? Well, click on "capture video to hard drive" and that's all, choose AC3 audio instead of LPCM, the interface is as easy as it can !

ok i will give it a try, i wasnt installing Vision i was just installing the Express burning software lol. Thanks again, I really appreciate your help
