Hey guys I downloaded 4 movies last night all in .avi format.

I burned one of them to a DVD, and put it in one of my DVD players and the video works, but audio doesnt.

I put the same DVD into another one of my DVD players and it doesn't work at all.

I put the same DVD into my computer and it works fine!!!

How can I format this file so its compatible with most/all DVD players!!!

  4. LPCM is the most compatable audio format. All DVD players can handle this.

mpg audio as well, then AC3.

For AC3, easy is probably ffmpegGUI. Maybe a little better quality, but a little more daunting for newcomers is Aften with a GUI to make the settings. With ffmpegGUI, you just drop the audio file in there and it encodes to AC3 stereo.

One thing to watch out for with AVIs off the net is MP3 VBR audio. It can cause audio/video sync problems, so you may need to convert them to a WAV format with a program like VirtualDub or VD Mod, then use ffmpegGUI or similar for the AC3 conversion. You can either add the AC3 back with the video or let your authoring program combine them.

Here's a WAV extraction guide for VirtualDub Mod: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=280779

You can check for MP3 VBR audio with Gspot 2.70. Watch for the little green 'VBR' to light on on the lower left.

@DunCheap : All DVD players are required to play back LPCM and AC3 audio. All PAL players are required to playback mpeg-1 layer-2 audio. NTSC players are not required to support mpeg-1 layer-2, although most NTSC players released in the last 3 years will play it. AC3 is the most compatible compressed format for DVD playback.

  8. To the OP - Continually, frantically asking the most basic questions in such an urgent fashion gets annoying very, very quickly. There is a reason that this, and almost all, sites have a FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS list, along with numerous guides and a dictionary. I refer to the FAQ as the Dynamically Updated Master Breakdown for Access to Superb Statements. Note the capitals.

There is so much you need to know, spending perhaps an hour reading will educate you much faster and more completely. For instance, you did not mention converting these AVI files, you may not even be aware this is needed. The number of issues you will run into is truly vast, and at this point you won't even understand the answers.

There are detailed Guides to walk you through everything you need to know.

Assuming you know something about guitars, shall I ask you about detailed fingering for specific chord changes and then interrupt to ask what is a scale or an octave? There are obviously some basics that need to be grasped here.
