  1. Hi,

I have a Sony TRV40 that I'm trying to connect to my Compaq notebook thru the built in firewire port.

Even just previewing the playback, I get a lot of random moving pixel blocks on the screen. I tried the Windows Movie Maker and also WinDV but both of them have the same problem. I've already change the firewire cable and still have the same problem.

Is there any settings that I need to do first before I can copy my movie to the notebook?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    That's an odd problem.

How many imes have you used the tape? Have you checked to make sure that this problem doesn't exist on the original tape? Have you connected the camcorder directly to a television to get a more detailed view of the original?

I usually use Scenalyzer Live to import DV. It woks the best for my (basic) needs.

  3. Hi,

The tape is new. And yes I have connected the camcorder to the TV and playback the video without any problem.

I have also transfer the the same video to the pc (using USB cable) without having the random blocks appearing every few seconds. But USB transfer is horrible (a lot of pixelization appearing). This is the first time I'm transferring video thru firewire. I tried capturing (using the firewire) and the random blocks are captured also into the video.

Is there any configuration that I need to set before I could use the firewire port?

    Regards,
    Glenn

The Firewire drivers are built into XP. That's really all you need, unless your laptop has proprietary drivers. If your camera works ok with other computers, then the problem may be your Firewire interface. I would advise to try it on another computer and see what happens.
