  1. Hi

I have joined a number of dts and dolby5.1 vobs about 25 in total together using vobedit and created the ifo files using Ifoedit

The Dvd plays fine except the DTS vobs have no sound on the Player
(i have a dts decoder) and the dts plays with sound on my PC

Is there some special Hex editing I have to do on the Ifo file to tell it to use DTS. Do dts only vobs and 5.1 only vobs have have to be kept seperate like a second movie ???

I've also tried changing the audio mode on the remote when the dts vobs are playing but no joy!!!!

    Any suggestions appreciated !!!

    Thanks

AFAIK, tracks cannot have a DTS track only under the DVD spec. That is why you will find an empty AC-3 track on some disks. The first audio track should be the same in each title set, so you would have to have DD5.1 audio as audio 1 on every track, even if it was empty for the DTS tracks.

Most software DVD players are a lot more lenient on standards than standalone players - another reason not to trust them when testing.

  3. Thanks Guns1inger

So what your saying if I keep the DTS vobs and Dolby vobs together as seperate Title sets it should work

By the way the vobs have one sound track each either 5.1 only or DTS only

So the DTS title set will only have 1 track

Do I have to make an empty AC-3 track for these dts only vobs then. sounds bit more complicated then I thought

    Cheers

To get full compatability in any (or at least most) standalone players you will have to add the extra track.

I think gunslinger is saying the DTS track must be audio stream #2,the ac3 stream must be #1. Ac3 is DVD's default audio format so it must be the #1 audio stream.

  6. one more quick question

what would be the best way to add this blank audio track. How would I remix it back into the dts vob
would it also have to be the exact same size as the playing time for the vob

    Cheers

  7. ok wulf109 sounds a bit easier now

so this would involved a bit of hex editing on the ifo file then to change the properties of Audio2

    I think my Audio1 has 6 ch 5.1
    And Audio2 2ch sound

  8. dantheman,
DTS and AC3 can go on the same disc but you have one restriction - you can't mix them in the same VTS. So in your case you have two options:

    1. Separate the movies with AC3 into one VTS and the movies with DTS in another (but since DTS is not compulsory, the DVD standard requires that you have at least one AC3 or PCM stream for that movie as well for full compatibility, so just convert the DTS to low bitrate AC3 or use a dummy AC3 and put both audios with these movies) or

    2. Make a dummy or low bitrate AC3 audio for the movies that only have DTS and a dummy DTS for the movies that only have AC3. Then you can mix them in the same VTS because multiple audio streams are allowed

I'd go with option 1 though - that way you don't need to make dummy DTS streams.
To put an AC3 stream to the movies with DTS, you'll need to demux the VOBs (you'll get the DTS and the MPEG), then convert the DTS to AC3 (I don't know if there are any tools that can do this, you may need to convert to PCM in-between). I think you can go as low as 56 kbps for AC3 - that shouldn't take too much space. And then mux again the MPEG, AC3 and DTS into a VOB.

  9. Thanks for All for your Help !!

As this is a collection of demo clips I want to keep the DTS clips audio at full bit rate

And as most of clips are AC3 ill go with your no1 recommendation Petar
i'll use a dummy AC3 file and remix both audios onto these dts Vobs

Would it be easier to demux the DTS audio as a DTS .wav file rather then as a .dts file . I have a tool for exacting dts audio as a wave file.

I persume there's tools out there for .wav to .ac3 convertion
rather then from .dts to .ac3

    Cheers

That's fine. Once you have the file as wav you can convert it to AC3. But you still need to demux the VOBs to elementary streams in order to add the additional AC3 audio (unless there's some clever way of adding an additional audio stream to a VOB file, but I'm not aware of any).

Besweet is a freeware that can create AC3 and there's a gui for it called AC3Machine that will make it easier for you. There are also few authoring tools that can create AC3 audio (which I would trust better) but if you don't have one, go with Besweet.

  11. You might look at the capabilities of DVDlab (http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/) as far as authoring multiple audio types on one disc.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'
