  1. OK, wait up... I'm not quite new to the computer-field, although I have not been involved with AVI/DivX/(S)VCD/Etc for a long time. In one of the threads in this forum (https://www.videohelp.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=65426&forum=8 ), staind_96 wrote the following:

...still look good. Downloaded divx movies lose a little quality evey time they get downloaded. So if you have...

I'm puzzled. As far as I know, anything digital consists of 0's and 1's. When downloading a file, it gets send in packets, each of which are checked on arrival. If the contents of a packet is not identical to when it left, a request a placed to resend it.

Downloading some file gives you an EXACT COPY, BIT-BY-BIT, of the original. No matter what kind of file it is (ZIP, RAR, EXE, AVI, MPG, etc..).

If what staind_96 is saying is correct, this would mean that (e.g.) a ZIP-file would become currupt after being down- and uploaded several times.

As I said, I'm relatively new at video-stuff. If I'm wrong, please correct me and explain?

    Thanx!

  2. The only thing I can think of is that if your using morpheus or the like then sometimes your downloads can be corrupted (As it multisegments and doesn't fix them properly), thus you can get corrupted frames, repeating sequences and the likes. All of which throw off your conversion to VCD.

Also the quality of your movies depends on the person who made them. The DivX's I've made using Nandub and ALOT of tweaking come out pretty well in (s)vcd and vcd... other peoples divX's might not be as good.

  3. OK, the possibility of progs that use multi-segmenting not fixing right could be, but eventhough the movie becomes less 'watchable', the picture-quality should stay the same.

Non the less: you may have a point, Shabubu!
