i was wondering how do they add popup like in blind date. i would love to add them in my home video. thanks. i have vegas 5.

I don't know the programs, so can explain in more detail what the effect is ? Are you talking about speech bubbles ?

An interesting idea... I wonder if you could make a logo of some sort and add it to a specific number of frames? I know subtitles can be done with avisynth but getting the words to appear in bubbles... Hmmmmm...

To do this in Vegas I would create a set of generic speech buble shapes in photoshop as transperant png files, then use the text generator to add the text. These could be added to any track as required.

You could find some here4 for free download. Then just put them in an audio timeline in Vegas. Very easy to do.
