Hi, I have just purchased a new sony 530a but although windows device manager says its working fine, I can not get anything to recognise it as a dvd writer, everything just see's it as a cd writer, and even then, the cd's it produces are not readable by any other machine. seeing that this problem is not specific to a particular software package, i assume it must be hardware based.
Can anyone help me get this thing to tell the world it is really a dvd rw not just a cd rw?
thank you

What are your system specs, specifically the Operating System?
I would reseat the IDE cables. Also, install the drivers for it that came on the Sony CD. -
I don't think this is a problem. I have two DVD burners in my Comp and they both show up as CD drives in 'My Computer' panel. They both burn fine.
If it works, don't fix it.
