I was on newegg lookign up part to upgrade my PC and I saw a few 12X DVD+R burners on there...I didn't even know they were out yet? Are they even reliable? Is there 12x media? How quickly does it burn a full DVD+R? 3 mins?

WoW, you must have taken a little nap lately, 12X burners have been out for over a month now.
it takes 6:20 to burn a full DVD +R @ 12X, I was using 8X media which can be pushed to 12X.
also, here is a link of a review for you to read.

blah, why would u want 12x, its an unofficial spec. according to the (+) camp. thats why most companies are skipping it and going strait to 16x drives/media

The Plextor 12X has gotten the highest ratings, thats a good reason to get a 12X, Reading other reviews, the 12X burn a DVD in about 6min, the same as the 16X, I guess you feel 4X is good enough for you @ naturalzinc but me I love both the 708A and the 712A.

If you are not sure whether the media you are using will burn properly at high speed, please look for other users experience at http://forum.rpc1.org

I should mention that my buddy has a Plextor 8X burner and gets 8X burning out of the 4X fuji. I'll just be using them at 4X on my pioneer and may just buy the 8X pio and hopefully the 4X Fuji will burn at 8X on there too.

www.fluidtek.com.au are advertising LG 12x dual layer dvd writers , i presume the 12x is for single layer media.

Many of my friends are using LG GSA-4120B. TY 02 and Ricohjpnr02 media are easy to get. 12x burning using them is not exactly three times as fast as 4x burning but it still saves some time.
Whether 12x is official or not is not an important point, I think.
Here's one of the first GSA-4120B reviews, posted on late May, written in Korean as the review was primarily done on the request of LG Electronics in South Korea.
http://home.storageinfo.co.kr/~kenny/review/gsa_4120b_kimya95/index.htm
In short, 4120B's great if you are willing to pay for some 8x DVD+R that are burned at up to 12x speed, namely 8x DVD+R by TY and Ricoh/Ritek. It supports both DVD+R DL 2.4x and DVD-RAM 5x as well.
Another review by another tester. The tests were done with LG's sample drives and three different pre-release firmware versions.

Can it bitset, Kennyshin?
If not you can basically forget about burning DVD+R DL.You stop me again whilst I'm walking and I'll cut your fv<king Jacob's off. -
Are there (or were there every) any plans for DVD over 16x?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
The Artec 12x and the Indio 12x drives are available on the shelf at Fry's. At least in the Silicon Valley area.
What I found crazy about it, is that the Artec was posted at $119. Seeing that you either have to a) wonder why even consider the 8x's that are from $20 - $50 bux higher. or b) wonder what the hell is wrong with the drive to be priced so low. I'm almost tempted though to pick one up and test it out. If it comes up bogus, Fry's liberal return policy will put the money right back into my pocket.
