  1. Here's the problem. I've tried to install this codec many times with no success. The problem is that the installer finishes as it would normally do, but the codec doesn't show up on ANY programme...Not even in GSpot as an installed codec ... so, how can I install it so it works properly???

  2. Is there any special reason you need to use the canopus codec? I find the Panasonic DV codek to give a more comfortable picture, and it works

  3. Yes. The Panasonic DV codec only supports RGB, and the Canopus one supports both RGB and YUV2.
But if the panasonic DV codec can be used with AviSynth, I'd use that one. Do you know if AviSynth can work with the panasonic one??
    Thanks for your reply.

  5. Thanks BJ_M . I'll see if I can install the Canopus, and if it doesn't work, I'll use the Panasonic codec.
One final question; When I installed the canopus codec before, it didn't show up on GSpot, but if I opened a DV file and clicked render, it would render succesfully, but on the information of the used codecs, an 'unknown codec' was used (the canopus, I guess). So, does the canopus show up as an installed codec in some programme, or it simply doesn't show up?

simply doesnt show up - same with the main concept ... depends on the program i guess ...

it really only maters which dv codec you are using for RE-encoding ... for playback it doesnt mater

  8. Hey BJ_M, just one more question...
I read in other thread that you suggested using canon's codec...Is it better than the panasonic one? Which colourspaces does it support? And, finally, does it suffer from the chroma bug (like the canopus codec)?
    Thanks for your help.

  10. Yep... you're right
I thought there was a DEcoder from canon, but I didn't find it in a Canon camcorder's CD so... well, thanks again for your help

  11. Try changing the FourCC code of your avi file to "cdvc". That will set it so that dv-avi file will be decoded using the Canopus codec. The default FourCC code dv-avi files uses the M$ codec so installing the decoder for the Canopus codec is not enough. There is a FourCC changer that is supplied with Koepi's build of Xvid although I forget the name of it. The Canopus codec does suffer from the chroma bug so you will have to use FixBrokenChromaUpsampling or ReInterpolate411.
Do you remember when TMPGEnc needed an English patch?
