I’ve been using DVIO because I like its simplicity. I prefer to capture to DV type2 and with this little tool it is very easy. You will also need to install Panasonic DV codec to avoid problems.
DVIO will only allow you to capture. If the source is noisy, the capture will be noisy.
Look for tem in the TOOLS section. -
Another free program is WinDV. It has a preview window which I prefer. There's no capturing involved, just a data transfer. The tool you use for this doesn't much matter. The DV will be the same. Type 2 is more compatible with Virtualdub and other editors and encoders such as TMPGEnc. There is no adjustment of size or quality or codec during transfer, that is set by the camera or DV source. Another program that is not free, but popular is ScenalyzerLive for transfers.
