    or (better in my opinion)

both are using premiere i think... you can probably use a similar method for after effects.

On second look... the second link would be very easy to do in AE (and give better results). Simply make your muzzle flashes in Photoshop (or other paint program), and export them with a transparent or black background. Then in AE, have them appear (as a layer on top of video) for a frame or two while the gun is "shooting".

I've done similar effects (and even transporter effects) using Virtualdub and a simple static jpg.

I simply apply the logo filter to the scene with the gunshots, load the jpg, and have a quick fade-out. The instant appearance of the jpg makes it look like a flash, then the quick FO makes the flash "dim".

Same with the transporter, but variable duration fade in, then splice in the actual person's scene.

You would have to play around with Particle Playground, an effect in AE Pro. It's hard to use (and i've never used it), so i can't help you much.[/quote]

BTW, i'm pretty sure particle illusion is coming out with a plug-in for AE. If not, check out Trapcodes Particular an AE plugin that is very similar to PI.

Buy Particleillusion 3. It's not that expensive & you'll be glad you did, especially if you are looking for these types of effects.... fire, smoke, dust, clouds, etc

The other one to look at is AlamDV, which was original designed to do light saber and muzzle flash effects. Different to particle illusion in approach, but also very cheap with a lot of downloadable effects.
