I have created an AVI file from Premier PRO 1.5 that contains edited video and some still pictures.
When I pay this AVI file through Windows media player it looks fine. However, when I import the file (asset) into encore and preview it, it has real probelms when it gets to any sections with still pictures. The timing is all out, the menu screens don't display properly and it the pictures do no remain on the screen as long as they should. The video section works fine, I am sure I must be doing something wrong. I have tried rmoving the tick for optimizing stills in Premier PRO but this made no difference.
This may be a clue, when I exported the video I selected Microsoft AVI (not Microsoft DV AVI) so that I could chose my own Main Concept DV codec.
Anyone have any ideas?

Perhaps if you export in Premiere as Adobe Media Encoder-mpeg2, which is then DVD compliant and does not have to be transcoded in Encore.
or: try transcoding first the avi in encore beforepreviewing the video
