  1. What do I need to burn an 804MB XCD bin/cue pair with a Mac? Toast 6 Titanium only seems to support mode 1.

Have a look at Firestarter or Missing Media Burner.

Also, I'm pretty sure Toast does support mode 2, but I'm at work in PC land now so I cant fire it up to remember how to do it.

  3. Thanks for the tip, but I'm still not having any luck. When I use MissingMediaBurner, the UNIX Terminal indicates that all 804MB are being written, but the disk I wind up with has only 699MB and is unplayable. Perhaps it's the burner that doesn't support mode 2, although it's only a year old.

As you can undoubtedly tell, having to burn a multimedia disk is a rare occurence for me.

maybe checking Overburn Disk will help. i suppose the file you have is a video, and you did choose video --> Burn Multitrack CD-ROM XA (Mode 2) cue or toc

  5. Did you even try bin/cue format in Toast 6?

  6. Yeah, I tried that first. Copying bin/cue in Toast 6 produced the same result -- a 699MB, unplayable disk which contains only a dat file, nothing else. Same when I checked Overburn Disk in MissingMediaBurner. So far, I haven't managed to get more than 700MB on a disk.

Now I'm thinking Plan B might be easier: extract an MPEG from the bin, then put the file on two disks. It wasn't what I planned, but I can live with it if I have to. If I could extract an MPEG, I could use the tools panel in ffmpegX to split it at 700MB and author both parts for VCD.

Something akin to ISOBuster might work if there were a Mac equivalent, but I haven't found one yet. The closest so far is VCDGearX, but it errors out when it says it can't find an MPEG-2 stream in one of the tracks. Not sure what that means. I think this is an OGG file. Not sure what that means, either, at least in terms of how it complicates my task.

Still searching. I do appreciate you guys helping out.

  7. I think the disc is probably burned correctly, the problem is probably with the XVD it self. Does the DAT on the disc play with VLC? If Toast finishes the burn, then the disc is okay. You won't get that far if Toast couldn't burn that much data.

The Finder says the file is 804MB? You can burn about 800MB of video to a 80 minute CD. If you put a blank disc in Toast and get info on the blank, there is info showing how much data will fit on the disc. I you click that line of text, it will change to audio and video.

You could also add the bin/cue to Multi-track CD-ROM XA in Toast. You could change the sector size if you like and try that.

  8. I have found I can burn 812-813 mb of Video on a 800mb disk with no problems. This is using the overburn feature of Missing Media Burner. This will vary with burner and perhaps CD disks. The problem may not be what you think. I have from time to time had burns stop at a point and a second try is the same etc. I have found this is caused by an error in the mpg file. This can often be fixed using "VCDGearX" The file will need to be in mpg form. If your file is in bin/cue form "More Missing Media tools" has bin to mpg. Set to run in mpg to mpg and check fix mpg errors. It is a bit of trouble but has fixed many otherwise unburnable files for me. It was a bit of a mystery because the file would often/usually play fine on the computer.

  9. You guys are right. Looks like I've got a corrupt file. I'd already tried Rip Bin in MoreMissingTools and it gave me the message, "**ERROR: INFO signature not found." VCDGearX choked on everything, including mpg2mpg, each time saying it couldn't find an MPEG-2 stream on one of the tracks. I did try checking fix mpg errors. Finally, when I try to play the dat file in VLC, I get a ton of errors. Maybe this is one that can't be fixed. If nothing else, I've learned a lot today, and that's worth something.
