Is their any other software for phones besides Future Dial?
With this software, some phones with PCS Vision can be used a modems, relaying web access onto a comp, and sence Vision usage isn't airtime, I could get online with my laptop anywhere, anytime w/o having to pay airtime and plan minutes. Also, with future dail, you can transfer images from PC to phone and ringtones from PC to phone, currently their is no way to upload pics from a PC through sprint.
However my PM-8200 isn't supported for this feature by Future Dial. I would like to know if their is any other software that can accomplish those goals or do I need to switch a different phone (i'm bout 4 days into my tryout period)

i think there might be another software program, but im not sure. check out www.sprintusers.com they have lots of info on sprint phones. and there is a way to upload your ringtones and pics to the phone. theres a tool on that page, and also on www.t1mmy.net/visionTool.html that will let you email yourself the files. then you just hit "go" and it will automatically download them.
oh and btw, dont use your phone as a modem too often. if you read some posts on sprintusers forum, you will learn that sprint is really cracking down on vision usage. according to the sprint contract, you are not allowed to use your phone as a modem. if they catch you doing it too often, or downloading a lot of stuff onto you computer with it, they will cancel your vision service and possibly your phone service for violating the contract. i think thats pretty dumb, most all other carriers allow you to do this. -
AFAIK your wireless web time does count toward your alotted time on Sprint phones. Also the USB cable is not all it's cracked up to be. There are PCMCIA cards specific to using your service for internet access. That software doesn't allow you to do much, and from what I've read the only good use for that USB cable it comes with is to completely reprogram your phone's firmware. Go check out the forums and sprintusers.com to get some better information on Sprint phones and services.
FWIW I've got an RL2500. Once you figure out how to use the upload tool online you can make all the wallpapers and ringers you want for free. I don't have a camera built into mine (because I loathe cameras on phones) so I have no other way of changing the pictures on my phone. As for ringers I never use them, my phone is almost always on vibrate or no ring at all. The only time it beeps is when it's on the charger in my bedroom so it'll wake me up if it's a number listed to do so.
If you get really deep into the code on your phone you can do some pretty amazing things with it. Of course you pretty much throw any warranty out the door when you do so. -
Not if you're planning to use it to access the web via a laptop. The only nice thing about the newer phones is the big color screens make it easier to check things on the web. Personally the only thing I ever use the web for on my phone is checking the weather, watching my eBay auctions, maps and addresses, and to monitor/control my home computer.
I don't remember the phone you've got so I couldn't tell you which one to upgrade to if you needed to. I'd surf around on the sprintuser forums though, there is a lot of good information there.
