I have been capturing to a separate hard drive (IDE) for ages with no problems.
The time came to upgrade my system so I thought it would be good to get a mobo which would support SATA drives so that I could have an even better (faster) hard drive for my capturing.
However, this has not been the case and in fact I am dropping frames like there is no tomorrow. If I capture to my main IDE drive there is no problem so it must be something to do with the way I have set up the new drive.
I am new to SATA drives and my mobo manual only talks about setting up the RAID function. As I only have one SATA drive I don't need this and have set the BIOS for the controller to "Base" as opposed to "RAID", but whichever combination of settings I try, the result is the same.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on this because it is driving me mad and I am thinking of ditching this drive and reverting back to a slave IDE drive as before. I am reluctant to do this though because I upgraded the mobo to try and improve on my video capturing, not make it so that I can't capture at all!
