  1. Hi there... I am making a dvdr backup of my LOTR Extended Editions for my kids to watch as they play them all the time and never put them back in the box!!!

Anyway, I thought it would be cool to remove all the aditional extras and fancy menus and just have a single DVDr with the film on it and the forced subtitle track for the elvish speach sections.

I have used DVDshrink to re-auther the two dvd's onto my hard drive with just the movies and the subtitle tracks i want. I had DVDshrink set to NO COMPRESSION so it was a direct stream copy of the movies. So I have 2 directorys lotr_d1 + lotr_d2.

The idea was to combine the two dvd's into a single DVD and then use DVD rebuilder and CCE to compress the data into DVDr size.

The problem is that I can not figure out how to combine the to vobs sets... My original Idea was to use DVDlab and simply import the vobs and then link each vob file to play the next one and the last go back to menu but for some reason dvdlab crashes every time I try to do this.

Q:- Is there a application that can simply join vobs together into a single vob file? (so I can attach all the vobs into one vob file)

Q:- Anyone have a nice method for combining two dvd's into 1 dvd? (Remember that at the moment each volume of the dvd is JUST the movie.. and nothing else...)

  2. PS - For those confused the LOTR extended Edition has the film split over 2 disks.

  4. No this post seams to be on how to make 100% lossless dvd backup of lotr.... I am looking for a way to get a single DVDr to replace the 2 Disk version that came on the originals.

    To reword it..

The original DVD's come with the main movie split over to dvds. these dvds are full of CRAP (imho) like commentaries and fancy menus.

I have made using dvd shrink 2 copies of the dvds with just the movie on it nothing else....

Now I am trying to figure out how I can take all the vobs from those two directories and make them into ONE dvd.... so I can then dvd rebuild it (or dvdshrink it) so the film fits on a single dvdr.

End result.. You have a single dvdr with the entire lotr extended edition on it. no menus no extar audio streams and no subtitle streams (apart from forced)

So all I am looking for is a way to combine to dvd's into one.

    Doesn't DVD2One have a combine function?
You'd need one of the newer versions, I think that one offers the option you need.

  6. This option is a lot closer to wat I was thinking about but dvd2one dosn't have any way (as far as i can see) of joining the dvds together with out recompressing them.

I would like to find a way to taking the direct stream copied vobs from the original and make a single dvd with them that is lossles (aso it is a dvd of about 9gb, then use dvd rebuilder and CCE to recompress... as it has by far the best compression.

    Hi Jynks,
The solution to your problem is very simple. I too have had to combine several VOB's spread out on two disks, into a single DVD. The only tool you require is DVD Shrink.
Here's how to do it :-

    1) I understand that you now have two folders containing VOB's for each of the two DVD's. Open DVD Shrink, and using the 'Open Files' option, open the files in the first folder (first DVD).

    2) Now open up another DVD Shrink window, and similarly, open files for the second folder (second DVD).

    3) Now, click on 'Reauthor' on any of the two DVD Shrink windows. This should open up another (third) DVD Shrink window.

    4) Now, all you have to do is drag and drop the movie title from the first DVD Shrink window (first DVD) into the third DVD Shrink window, and then drag and drop the movie title from the second DVD Shrink window into the third DVD Shrink window.

    5) Finally, click on Backup, and select a location to save your final DVD (containing VOB's from both the DVD's). Tada!

NOTE: Since you want direct stream copies, make sure you select 'No Compression', in the final DVD Shrink window, for both the titles.

    Hope this helps.

  8. THANK YOU!!! You legend... i never even thought to use DVDshrink for this....

I was confused for a litlle bit as they must have changed the app a bit from last time you used it.....

SO THIS is how you do it.

Once you have the two folders with the movie you wish to join load up DVDshrink and before you do ANYTHING click on Re-Author.... instead of having a dvd browser like normal you now have a directory drive listing of you computer... you can now add as many titles as you wish to the collection from your hdrive.

Hit backup to compress (or make sure you have no compression set on the titles if you wish to use a 3rd party compressor)

    Thanks again mate!!!

  9. If you have two drives you could have done it without ripping the two discs first.
With one drive, only one rip was neccessary.
