  1. I am trying to convert from MPG to AVI (or anything really)...The file was created with the ATI VCR, and is 3.75 GB in size. I can play the file fine in Windows Media Player, or the ATI File Player, however I cannot open it in anything else. I want to trim off unneeded pieces (most of it is unneeded) and compress it, but I am unable to get any other program to recognize it. And neither WMP or ATI FP will convert it or export it so that other programs can read it. I think it has to do with the codec it was encoded with. Any ideas on how to convert it to a usable standard would be appreciated. Thanks!

(Below is what Windows Media Player says the codecs are)

Audio codec: CyberLink Audio Decoder (ATI)
Video codec: CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (ATI)

  2. The CyberLink Codecs you list are PowerDVD MPEG-2 filter set. TMPGEnc can make use of them to decode to AVI (File / Output to file / AVI file).

    Have you tried TMPGEnc?

    Have you tried VirtualDub MPEG-2?

  3. Yes...I've tried a various array of different programs.

TMPGEnc (version 2.521.58.16, core version 1.98.152) gives this error when trying to select it as a source file: File "C:\Documents and Settings\Sesajic\My Documents\video (May 31).mpg" can not open, or unsupported.

VirtualDub (version 1.5.10) gives this error: No video frames found in MPEG file.

  4. Do you mean VirtualDub or VirtualDub MPEG-2?

There's also a free plugin for TMPGEnc that decodes MPEG-2 in the tools section; https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=243#comments
