  1. I Use Smart Ripper to "Rip" my dvds. I select "Files" or "Backup"
fromthe options then start. I get some .ifo file, vob files.

Then i went to view the contents of the DVD and saw the exact same files on the DVD. Why do you use a ripping program when i could have just copied the VOB files and IFO files straight off the DVD on to my local hard disk?

What is the purpose of a ripper program if all that ite doing is just copying the same files that are on the DVD to you hard disk?

Because often the DVD files are encrypted. Often, you can transfer the VOBs to your computer and simply rename them as .mpg's, but sometimes the encryption will kick in, leaving you with a partially decrypted DVD.

  3. Most commercial DVD's are encrypted. SmartRipper Decrypts the files and then copies them to your hard drive.

If you have DVD player software installed on your system you can see that the files are encrypted.........copy some the VOB files to your hard drive through ISOBuster.

Do they play correctly from your hard drive? Chances are it will be scrambled.

I've personally only seen one movie that wasn't encrypted.
