As you can see, I have a respectfully powerful computer.
I am using Roxio DVD creator 6 and Verbatim DATALIFE PLUS 8x -r and +r disks. None have burned bad yet.
Anyway, whenever I burn data to the +r, such as pictures or other critical data, it burns between 7x-8x using the CREATOR CLASSIC program of the Roxio suite.
Whenever I use the DVD Builder of the Roxio suite with -r, I build the DVD, it takes about 1.5 hours to encode about 4.1 GB of data and then starts off burning at 4x, then after about 30 seconds, another line shows up that says ACTUAL WRITE SPEED: 1x
And since it actually takes about 45 minutes to burn, it is probably close to the reported 1x or 2x.
Why is this doing this?

Don't take this the wrong way but ROXIO software sucks! I have the same dvd burner as you. I use NERO burn version 5.5.10.42. I'm not familiar with the ROXIO software. I would suggest you try using another burning program like NERO. They have a demo version to try. You may want to post your problem at the PLEXTOR FORUM at cdfreaks.com or at cdrlabs.com.

In the same paragraph you state that Roxio sucks and that you are not familiar with it? What makes you say it sucks?
I am new to burning DVD's, so I can't say one way or another, but I certainly wouldn't claim a certain car company sucks when I have never even been near the car, let alone driven it.
Regardless, a simple reboot of my computer has fixed said problems.
