  1. This has probably been asked a million times before but which Video Editing program allows the import of VOB files and then writes them out after you've cut them up and added audio ?

The reason I want to work with VOB's is because I record onto a standalone DVD recorder which knocks spots of any hardware card I've ever bought. If I then convert the VOBs back to MPG or AVI I then lose loads of quality.

    thanks

Womble Mpeg Video Wizard. Although the output from it is an mpeg, it does not re-encode (unless necessary..like for titles or transitions) so no quality loss.

TMPGEnc DVD Author will import and edit vob's.

Vobedit will demux vob's into elementary streams.

BTW, if you just extract an mpeg from a vob (like with vobedit) there is no conversion therefore no quality loss.

  4. Thanks

Are there any of the big boys programs that do this such as Adobe Premiere, Pinnacle studio etc?

another vote for tmpgenc author. imports vobs w/o conversion, does nice editing and menus like pinnacle (although not *quite* so many options as pinnacle...)

Vob is a final display format - it isn't used for editing, just for burning to disc. You need to load the vob into Womble mpeg-vcr, edit and save as mpeg2 (no quality loss) then load into authoring package such as Tmpgenc dvd author.

you can drop a vob into vegas - but it will not import the ac3 audio ...

you would be far better to convert it first ....

or edit the mpeg if you just want to cut it ...
