Hi! I've been cpturing video from my tv for a while now and usually use the AVI to VCD or SVCD method. I was wondering if there is a way to capture directly to vib and being able to edit it afterwards. Please if anyone can help id really appreciate it.![]()

if you want to edit it -- why on earth would you want to capture to a VOB file ?

You can capture and encode directly to mpeg2 with a powerful CPU or use a capture card with built in hardware mpeg2 encoder. Then edit the mpg file before importing it to a DVD authoring software which creates the vob files.
But usually it is better to edit the low compressed captured avi file, then encode to mpeg2 and create a DVD.Ronny -
Womble MPEG Video Wizard is a frame accurate MPEG2 editor that can accept VOB's (they are basically MPG's with a different file extension). A big plus ia that Womble does not re-encode the edited MPG (no quality loss). Then you can make a DVD from the edited MPG with TMPGEnc DVD Author, again with no re-encoding. You can capture to VOB with a standalone DVD recorder... some of them allow you to record on DVD-RW or +RW, which is convenient for editing and burning on the computer to a final DVD-R and allows you to use the re-writable DVD's over and over.

What I wanted to know actually is, is it possible to capture directly from TV to VOB?

you can in procoder version 2 ... im not sure of any other ,
and i am not sure if it works .... but it appears as an option ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
With WinDVD Recorder you can capture in DVD ready mpeg format, that is the right video resolution (720 X 480) and AC3 audio. You can then edit that in Womble mpegVCR. But you still need an authoring program to make the the video into make a working DVD, that is when the VOBs are created.
Is your question really whether you can capture and make a DVD at the same time? Some of the new stand-alone DVD recorders apparently will allow you do that by adding clips incrementally, and then you finalize the disc. But I don't know how you would do that with a computer set-up. -

i still dont know why someone would capture to a vob anyway if they want to edit it (or even if not going to edit -- just capture to a mpeg file - if really desired) .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Okay... I understand... Using the watch folder would produce a "quasi" realtime transfer...
Yes, I'll second that, VOB and Edit are not natural partners....
