Staples has Sony DVD- & DVD+ 25 spindle for $25 (no rebate) in their new flyer starting 6/6. Does anyone know what these are. I hope not CMC. I'd like to get some, but I find that my Lite-On 451 is pretty fussy. I've had pretty good luck with TDK ricoh's but not the same luck with Maxell ricoh's (both +) & both were recommended by Lite-On.

I got Sony DVDs (+ and -) 10 packs from Staples last time they were on sale. They were +Richos and MCC and - Sony.

Check this coupon out for an extra bit off the price:

So this coupon is an addition 12% off the $25 for 25 DVDs?

  6. I bought some from Staples some time back.

    My experience is:

    Sony = coaster

Never, ever had a coaster with Ritek GO4's

Be aware that the last batch of Memorex + that I got were CMC. That was a 25 pack from Staples for $25.00. After the first coaster I returned them. A friend of mine bought the - disks at the same time, they were Prodisc. I tried one of his & it burned fine in my Lite-On 451, but I didn't discover that until the deal was over.

    Bevarrrrrrre!!!
correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they 1x speed?
At least that's what mine turned out to be.
Speed is not listed on the package. (typical Sony)

  12. The Sony media worked perfectly on the fussy Plextor 708a. The -R's come in two flavors - v1.0 which were made by Sony themselves, and v2.0 which were TY discs. These were jewel cased media. Both turned out excellent quality work with not a single coaster or flaw.

Keep in mind spindle media sometimes doesn't work as well as jewel cased media, but I'd be surprised if you had a problem. Staples will take back media that doesn't work for you without a restock fee.

  13. The 10 cakes sitting at the Staples here in town could be neither TY or Sony if they are made in Taiwan... could they?

I don't wanna be stuck again with 25 to 50 CMC disks (landfill)

Sony made in Taiwan discs are the "SONY04D1" Mfr ID discs and actually made by LeadData. Sony has never used CMC as its OEM so far.

  15. I bought a spindle of Sony DVD-R from Staples. They are made in Taiwan and the media ID is SONY04D1. I use a Sony DRU510 to do all my burns. I have had success (no coasters) burning right to the edge of Sony DVD-R discs (2hr home movies with special effects). However, with CMC media (Imation DVD-R 4x), nothing but coasters with 2 hour home movies.

I guess not. If they are Made in Taiwan, you will get Sony (Lead Data) discs, with Media Code SONY04D1. They are good Enjoy!
If you find some Made in Singapore, then you'll be getting MCCs.

Quite true...bought Mem + dvdrs awhile ago from Amazon and they were CMC (they burn and play fine, though). As far as the - dvdrs being ProDisc why pay this PREMIUM when you can get ProDisc from Supermediastore.com for $42 per 100 spindle??
