  1. Hi,

    I've heard to get a little better resolution vcd (my player won't play svcds) that I can capture as a svcd, demux the mpeg file and then mux again as a vcd. I've made several vcds but do not know what muxing is?

    Any help is appreciated, Thanks Jerry

  2. That may or may not work depending on your player. Muxing an MPEG-2 stream as a VCD type stream is well in the realms of X(S)VCD so there is no guarantee for it to work on any particular player.

    Muxing = short-hand for "multiplexing".

    This refers to the combination of the elemental video and audio into one file that contains both. How they are put together (or how they are multiplexed) is important for S/VCDs.

  3. Hi Jerry

    A standard VCD 1.0 works with a bit rate of 1150 kbit/sec. Many standalones can re-play even higer rates, CDs with higher bitrates than 1150 are called XVCDs. Higher bitrates mean usually a higher resolution = better picture.
    Try your players ability by making a (X)VCD with a bit rate of for instance 2000 kbit/sec. If it does’nt work out you have another possibility to increase the resolution. The audio part of your VCD usually runs with 221 kbit/sec, means the video stream runs with about 930 kbit/sec (1150 minus 221). You can reduce the audio stream’s bit rate to for instance 128 and increase the video stream’s rate to 1020, that could make a visible difference. Audio rates below 128 make an uacceptable bad sound.

  4. ???

    VCD1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 use MPEG-1 video with a video bitrate of CBR 1150 kbit/s.

    The audio bitrate is CBR 224 kbit/s.

    The combined birate for VCD is obviously 1374 kbit/s!

    ANY deviation from these figures constitutes an XVCD. You CANNOT trade audio bitrate for video bitrate and keep it a compliant VCD.

    RHODK, please be sure of your figures before posting.
