  1. I've bought two of these.
Are they good quality or bad?

  2. Is there a program that can determine the quality of media(both DVD+-R and CD+-R)?

I believe TDK does mot manufacturer their own disks. There are programs that tell you hidden information about the disks, including the true manufacturer. CDRIdentifier works for CDs,. I know there are similar ones for DVDs. Once you find the true manufacturer of the CDs/DVDs look up their quality reputation on the Internet. Beware, some companies use either multiple manufacturers or decide to change manufacturers. An example I know of is FujiFilm CDs, they started by manufacturing their own, then they had Tayo Yuden manufacture for them, the last batch I got was manufacturered by ProDisc.

  4. older TDK's were great - the Made in Japan ones.. newer stuff is crap.. they just go with the lowest bidder for their media.. they are now only making money off their name. sad.

You're right Lobe, the reason I started using TDK was that they made all of their own media. Once they started rebranding, you have to do the research each time you buy, you can't just go with a brand name. I do still use TDK cds, because the technology is so mature it's kindof hard to screw up a CD-R blank these days. I avoid TDK DVD-R since they were problematic for me.
