  1. Everytime I try and cut a DVD compliant MPEG down in TMPGEncoder, it cuts ONLY the video (i.e. their is NO sound during Playback). Any idea why?

TMPGEnc's cutting tool only seems to work well with files that it encodes. Try using Womble MPEG VCR instead.

  3. The only time I have encountered this is when the audio was AC-3. Getting the AC-3 plug-in resolved the problem for me.

I should also say that I primarily move video from a DVR's disc or capture it in DV format with a Canopus capture card, so I really haven't got much experience with MPEG files generated from, ah, other sources. But I encountered this with the DVR's output and getting the plug-in was the fix for it.

I looked Womble's stuff over and wanted to thank you for the tip. TMPEG works, but wow, this is better for pre-encoded stuff!

Womble MPEG-VCR is a great program but TMPGEnc DVD Author (not the encoder) also does an excellent job of cutting video with AC-3 audio (or any DVD audio format).

The only limitation with TMPGEnc DVD Author is that you can only cut on "I" frames.

Yeah, DVD Author works, but that I-frame thing can be a real problem when you are working with quick transitions. I tried to get along without reencoding with TMPEGEnc, but I kept getting flashes of commercials .

The other drawback was that the audio doesn't play with AC-3 audio without the plug-in and it isn't displayed visibly and sometimes you get a burst of unexpected noise or cut your source off abruptly.
