  2. Are you using a Pinnacle capture device? Which one, which drivers, what version of Studio, do you have the latest patch? Capturing analog or DV?

How bout enough information to work with here!

When your selecting analog your probably just selecting the device. If your capture card has multiple inputs (s-video,composite or coaxial) you need to specify which input your using, at least you had to on all cards I've used.

the capture board is internal came with the M370N hp computer (front av inputs and firewire) in pinnacle you choose DV camcorder or a capture driver for analog. in this case is a CONEXANT driver.

now it just sits there with a blue screen in the preview window.

    still looking for help

  5. To capture analog via Studio, you'll need Pinnacle hardware. Pinnacle is proprietary when using Studio to capture analog. Capturing DV is no problem. Try a demo of Scenalyzer to capture your analog and see if that works ok for you. Then you can import into Studio and use it for everything else. I used Studio 8 for a year with Scenalyzer and now Studio 9 as well. Scenalyzer is a very good capture program, if not the best. I use it for both analog and DV.

I don't think that's correct. Studio 8 is recognizing the hardware otherwise he wouldn't be able to select it and I had Studio 8 which came with a ATI card which would capture analog from the ATI. I think it's a matter of whether or not Studio 8 supports the hardware your using which in his case it would because it recognizes it.

Does your comp have other analog sources such as TV, if so most likley what you are viewing is the wrong analog source.

I no longer have Studio 8 so I have to do this from memory. If I remember correctly after you select your capture source the capture window comes up, this is where your blue screen should be. On the bottom right or somewhere near the bottom is a button that says preferences or something like that. Select the button, a dialog box should pop up with 4 or 5 tabs at the top. I think it's the first tab on the left that says capture source. Select that tab, make sure that you have composite selected as your source in this window. Additionally this dialog box is accessible through one of the menus on the top near file>edit>view, I forget what they are but it's there somewhere.

From the pinnacle website under Studio 9/software specifications/input formats/:

Capture from analog camcorders (8 Millimeter, (S-)VHS(-C), Hi8) or VCRs (NTSC). (Requires DirectShow compatible video capture device.)

    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/docloader_n.asp?templ=10&doclink=/WebVideo/studioversion9/English(US)/doc/s9_features_specs_7.html&Product_ID=1501&Langue_ID =7&loc=spec&division_id=

Note: At the bottom of this page with the exception of the ATI AIW the supported hardware that is listed are all Pinnacle products. So there specs are either misleading or wrong.

From the Studio 8 specs...Nearly identical, no where on this page does state you need Pinnacle hardware to capture using Studio 8

Capture from DirectShow compatible capture devices including TV tuners, USB capture devices and USB video cameras/Webcams

    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/docloader_n.asp?templ=10&doclink=/WebVideo/studioversion8/English(UK)/doc/Studio_8_EN_detail.htm&Product_ID=577&Langue_ID=2& loc=spec&division_id=

Again if he can select the capture device in the menu then Studio 8 is recognizing it. I have yet to use any capture software that would display a device that it couldn't use.

Studio 8 is very picky about the capture cards it supports. My Leadtek 2000 card was supported at first then a program update removed support. Go figure.

Anyway mediachips, you will probably have to capture with another program like virtualvcr then import in to studio 8.
