hi,
i have a dvd that in my tv does not have colors. it is black and white, while in the PC it looks great, all colors OK. I think that it is a TV-norm issue. my TV works with NTSC, PAL-N and PAL-M, and i think that the DVD is PAL-B.
does anybody know how to backup the entire DVD changing the kind of PAL, or changing it from PAL to NTSC ?
thank you very much for any help !
best regards,
nachomur

I have the same problem. My Beatles Anthology set is PAL and plays black and white on my TV and not at all on another TV. This subject has been discussed a lot and my impression was that it was too much trouble. Converting from PAL to NTSC is not an easy process. Extract and decrypt(usually) the vobs and convert to MPEG, re-encode them with TMPGenc to NTSC standards and reauthor. Seemed like way to much trouble for me especially with 6 discs. I'll just watch them on my computer.

There are many threads on here for converting PAL to NTSC so please do a forum search.

As for converting the orginal menus ... well ... you can pretty much forget doing that!
But you can convert any video from the DVD such as the movie itself plus any extras like making of documentaries etc.
When done you will then have to author using a DVD authoring program such as TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVD-Lab etc.

Check your player settings, as your player may be ablt to convert the signal to NTSC and save you the hassle. I live in PAL land, but my player quite happily plays NTSC either as native, or via PAL conversion if your TV wont handle NTSC (mine does). It has a couple of different conversions as well, so play around and see what you find.

I do convert some to NTSC but not all because it isn't that huge of a deal for me since I have a DVD player that does PAL to NTSC conversion.
Granted it might be overkill for some people if you don't intend to buy many DVD discs that are in a format your TV doesn't handle but then again you can get a decent conversion type DVD player for $100 or less if you look hard enough.
As you might imagine not all DVD players are region free though and not all do conversions from PAL to NTSC or vice versa.

Some can actually do conversions though.
Play back a PAL DVD and you can get NTSC as your output.
Sounds like yours doesn't do any conversion.
