  1. I need to get some 45 minute tv-rips i've made down to about 300-350MB each(so that a 13 episode season could fit on 1 DVD-R). Which codec with which settings would you recommend for optimal video quality?

    IMO, DIVX is about the closest you will get. Settings, you will have to look to the guides, as it depends on the quality you can live with.

    300-350mb insn't very realistic for DVD purposes. Even VCD mpeg-1 will end up being around 420mb.

  4. i don't need to watch them on my dvd player, i'm just burning them to free up space on my hd. I just want to create a data disc of the files. i'll end up watching them on my computer streaming off the DVD-r.

    Ah, I see. That wasn't clear before. You might as well go with Divx. Have a look at Dr. Divx, as it's dead easy to use. Xvid is another good choice too, though it will require more work and research on your part.
