  1. Hey All,

Typical question I guess. My spanking brand new GSA-4082 burns at 2x only. Yes I flashed the firmware with the latest from LG website.
Somebody here posted something saying that drive can "be picky". Can somebody explain it to me? DVD Identifier tells me that my media is 4X but my drive can only burn it at 2X. Does the drive see semething else, or is it trying quickly something and comes up with 2X only.

Another question. The regular computer DVD drive, will it play ( read ) all media (-R, +R, -RW, +RW ) or does it have to be multi read something. Could I play DVD-R video on a regular DVD drive ( you know the $29 one )

And the last one: which format is supported by more stationary players -R or +R? I thought -R so bough a pack of 25, but my APEX 660 won't play them.

    Thanks for your time folks,

    J.

  2. All brand named like Memorex, Maxell, TDK, Ritek etc will burn at 4X

Cheap media with following media code will burn at 4X with good results

Princo, Prodisc and Longten, Prodisc is the best among the trio and IMO is better than Ritek.

following cheap media will also burn at 4X but better off at 2X, too much error at 4X

  4. It is possible that DMA is not enable on your O/S for the 4082, since it will resolve to only 2X in PIO mode, goto control panel and check if DMA is enabled on your IDE channels.
