  2. I know of two utilities that can convert QuickTime's MOV format to AVI.

First is the trialware EOVideo from http://www.eo-video.com/

Also RAD Video Tools which is freeware from http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

You can also use the TMPGEnc QuickTime plug in.
Import the MOV video into TMPGEnc, then export it as an AVI.

Search the Tools section of this site for the TMPGEnc QuickTime plugin.

  5. When you export from TMPGEnc look at the compression and format settings for both audio and video.

If you leave them as they are preset it will no doubt save an AVI with uncompressed audio AND video - that means an AVI with a huge filesize for even just minutes of video.

You'll find both the audio and video compression settings within the Save As prompt that appears when you select Output to file on TMPGEnc's File menu.

Select DivX and set a bitrate and choose say MP3 for audio compression.

5 mins of compressed video and audio compressed to 1150kb/s video and 224kb/s audio equals 49MBs mathematically!

Post again if you want more detail.

    Martin.
