Does your computer have a fire wire port or a fire wire card? The best captures are direct transfers from a camera to your computer via fire wire. If you can get one installed, do so, as the fire wire cards are relatively inexpensive.

Rent a digital 8 camera if possible, and make sure it does have a fire wire port.

Now, get a 4-pin to 6-pin fire wire cable to hook from your camera to your system. Use a freeware program called DVIO to do the video transfer. Once the transfer is complete, you will need a program to convert the video (DV AVI) to a MPEG DVD. Check the Convert section for one you think you may like.

Now that your is an MPEG file, you must author it to make the files (.BUPs, .IFOs, etc.)your burner will need to make a DVD. Check the Author guides here.

    Then burn, baby, burn!
    Hello.

  5. Also, if you know anyone with a dvd recorder and a hi-8 camera, check with them. You will get a very good transfer using the firewire or even the s-vhs input if available. Positive - very easy to do, trandsfers and records all at the same time. Negative - not as customizable ( menus / chapters ) as if you transferred and burned on a pc/mac.
