Beginners question... How can I burn my Hi8 to DVD with the same analogue quality using my pc? I capture it using Nero and Windows Movie Maker...but to get high quality video it needs a very large space...about 20+GB. When I burn it to DVD, it fit the DVD space but give a low video quality...

What setting do I have to change?

    I'm using Sony DCR-TRV250E PAL
    My pc Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.66GHz 2.67GHz, 992MB RAM

I guess you are using nero vision to convert to DVD? Try something else to convert the DV to DVD, like tmpgenc dvd author 3, ulead videostudio or free encoders like hc encoder. And don't try to squeeze in too many minutes/DVD.

I have a bunch of old Hi8 tapes that I REALLY want to digitize, in the highest quality possible. What kind of hardware is required to transfer the video from our old, semi-functional(the viewfinder doesn't work, but it will still play on a TV) Hi8 camcorder to my computer? We have a Samsung VCR to DVD recorder(Samsung DVD VR357)https://www.videohelp.com/dvdrecorders/samsung-dvd-vr375/2414#comments, would that work, and if so, how would I go about doing that? It mentions DV/D8 dubbing in the manual. but I think that's different(digital vs. analogue)? If I can get it to a DVD, then I can get it to my computer(DVDShrink), but I just don't know how to convert it to any digital format.

    Several ways to cap Hi8.

    1. DVD Recorder: Connect S-Video and audio to inputs and record in high quality (1hr) mode for good quality. 2hr mode (~4 Mb/s) has inadequate quality for shaky hand held video.

    2. Capture to any computer capture device using S-Video and audio connection. Again encode at high bit rate for high quality.

    3. Play back in a Digital8* camcorder and capture over Firewire (IEEE-1394) as DV format. Then edit DV and Author DVD.

    4. Capture S-Video and audio to a MiniDV camcorder with analog-pass-through feature. The signal will be passed to the computer over the Firewire connection.

    * Not all Digital8 camcorders play Hi8. Check manual.
