nec 1300 flash problem,drive not found.??

a friend has the nec1300 burner.
he is trying to flash it with the latest firmware,(the official,from the nec site)..
but he gets the message,when he try's to flash it : drive not found.
he get this message in the flash window,there is a small button to change drives,but it wont work,to change his drive,(to his burner).
he did try a earlier version,but with the same results.
he can still burn,but he cant upgrade his firmware,(drive not found,when flashing).

someone got the sollution..?

I flashed my nd1300a without any problems, but i do remember some years ago, i flashed a cd burner, it had to be connected to the ide as secondary master, not slave.

By the way, what kind of flash program did he try? Boot up to dos and flash or from windows? The one i used (fw 1.0A) was windows based, very easy, just flash and restart and all was good. If its the windows one that dont work then try the DOS one or vice versa.

he used the windows version, 1.0b http://www.necd.de/softwareoverview2.php/id/557
But the early versions (windows)didnt work also.
I will tell him to try the dos version.
