  1. i have a divx avi that i am converting in tmpgenc.. i already have the wav sound file and it is 1.6 gb (which sounds huge to me btw).... when I convert in tmpgenc, should I do it at 100% and then run it all through dvdshrink or estimate on the low side and do 90% so the 90% file +1.65 wav = 4.3 gb.. I'm afraid if my math is off and i do 91% instead of 90% the file will be too big.. but i don;t want it to be too small and lose quality

You should select a bitrate that will allow you to fit the movie without having to shrink. Use the DVDRhelp Bitrate Calculator. The size of the wav file is normal by the way.

  3. i have some confusion with the calculator...

i plan to use tmpgenc to create a mpv +m2v and then use dvd-lab to combine the m2v and avi (audio) i extracted from goldwave... so my audio file is 1.65 gb... in tmpgenc, which audio bitrate should i use in tmpgenc and what should i try and make the estimated file

is the equation video +1.65gb = 4.3 gb (or 4.7gb)

I would convert the audio to ac3 using ffmpeggui using a bitrate around 224 it will compress your sound without losing quality to around 200MB, then calculate your video bitrate using the bitrate calculator.
