  1. Converting WMV to MPG with TMPGEnc is quick and easy if you remux the WMV to MKV first.

For some reason, WMV9VCM doesn't seem to like the Matroska (MKV) package. Even stranger, i'm able to remux these to AVI. Is this Microsofts's own DivX-3 type hack?

I've been pretty lucky importing WMV directly into TMPGEnc, but I'll this method a shot if I ever get stuck. Thanks for the tip. You might want to post this in the User Guides forum too.

  3. I was actually trying to ask a question. I think i got a little carried away with presentation.

What i was wondering about is the Microsoft WMV9VCM codec. It seems to support the Microsoft streaming formats as well as AVI. From what i remember about the old DivX-3 codec is that the hack was to reenable AVI support. Is this Microsofts response to the MPEG-4 phenominon?

Did they choose to leave it AVI functional just to sink their claws deeper in yet another market?

What exactly is different about it that makes its incompatible with the MKV package? Was it by design?

    My mistake.

I normally take questions concerning Microsoft's reasoning as being rhetorical.

  5. Thats understandable. Its probably Microsofts goal to numb as many of our senses as they can. (Yes Microsoft beats us, but we still love em)

    So any experience with WMV9VCM?

(Maybe i should have put this in General Discussion)
