  1. ...whilst backing up a Movie (complete DVD) using DVDShrink, at 98% completion I got hit with an error "failed to read file "E:\" overlapped I/O operation in progress".
I tried again with different compression settings (another 3 times) with the same result.
The files seem to be intact on my HDD (up to the 98% mark), but I can't fathom what is happening.
Has anyone else had similar problems?

    Thanx

It just found a point that coupld not be read for whatever reason. The preliminary analyzis does not do a fram by fram check so many times it will appear to be fine. A deep analyzis would have probably cought the 98% point on yoour disk. Use another ripper to see if it stops at that point. RIp your whole dvd with decrypter or smart rpper onto your HD than shrink it from the ripped files. Shrink will have problems with a few disks. I've one or two in hunderds that will not rip. I just use another prog.
It could be a tiny scratch or dirt. Even if yoou insist the didk is pristine, cleant it aany way, then try again.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

When this has happened to me, it is due to scratches. Regardless of what ripper I used, I could not red the section. I have, so far, been able to fix these disks with toothpaste. I have heard that Smartripper is less susceptible to scratches, but I think it just skips over the damaged section and continues on, so scenes will be dropped even if it completes the file.

  4. Thanx guys,
I don't think there is a problem with the original.
I finally decided to backup the 'main movie' only and it went through and burnt perfectly - STILL CONFUSED.

Thanx for your input, though I will keep 'playing' with it - I'll let you know if I discover anything.

Maybe the part it couldn't read was not part of the main movie, just the extras, and that is why it worked when u re-authored the main movie only. I have had the same problem u described several times. One teem, there was nothing i could do to fix it, but the disc was relly badly scratched. One time, i used dvddecrypter, and that worked. And the third time, I simply didn't do a deep analysis, and it worked. As someone mentioned above, I probably just caused it to skip over the scratched part in the 3rd option, causing a skipping part somewhere on the disc. i figure a little skip is better then not being able to backup the disc at all though.
