    I can't find a guide on the main site, or on any other site for that matter, on how to convert a DVD into files to edit in premiere. I have Premiere 6.5 and Pro (7).

    What I am trying to do is add sounboard audio to an audience-recorded concert that is on a DVD. Should i convert to MPEG2, or go right to DV-Avi? What do I need to do that, and is there a better way to do what i'm tryin to do?

    Thankx in advance.

    No need to convert or rencode.

    Use DvDecryptor in "IFO MODE" to extract the Tittle. Choose "STREAM MODE" and Demux so that you end up with an m2v (video) and an mpa, ac3 or wav, depending on audio used. Take the audio and import it into a good Audio Editor like cool edit pro. Now you can mix it with any audio you want, just keep the length the same. You can also use your Video Editor to do this if you want.

    When your done, just import your m2v and Audio into your DVD Athoring s/w to make a new DVD. The Video Qualiy will be uneffected this way.

    Thanks. That would work fine, except when i decode it like that, it makes the Video in m2v format, but the audio is ripped to VOB format--which i cant edit in a program. How should i go about this? Thanks.

    For some reason, DVD decryptor rips the audio to VOB extention. You need to change extention to whatever audio format you used. If you used LPCM, then change the it to .wav, if you used Mpeg audio, change it to .mpa, if you used ac3, then change it to ac3. You should convert the audio to wav for editing, Goldwave is great for this.

    I prefer to use my Video Editor for this kind of work (I use Premiere). You can import the wav into the Timeline on Audio Track 1. Then import the audio you want into Audio track 2 and up. You can also import the m2v for visual referances, but make sure to render Audio only as you will be using original m2v Video.

    Good luck.

    Do you have to have a plugin for that? I tried in Premiere 6.5 and Pro and it says it does not accept that type of file.

    Nevermind.. I got them to import into premiere by rennaming .vob to .mpg and it worked fine, but the 2 tape speeds to not match completely, so it wont work anyway

    I do it a lot the DVD Decrypter way someone posted above; no M2V reencoding, just audio work;

    Diferent speeds ? well, that's expected of course, change the pitch/speed at any audio editor to match the source bad sounding file as close as possible, keep in mind that something like 1/2 second on a two hour movie would be unnoticeable;

    FORGET PREMIERE, I HAVE IT AS WELL BUT IT'S DEFINITELY NOT NECESSARY AT ALL, you have to work ONLY on an audio powerful editor (I use SoundForge); IT'S JUST AUDIO WORK !!!
