SVCD subtitles, in the black?

My first post... I've used these forums for info quite a bit, now I have a question which I can't seem to find the answer.

Is it possible to encode a divx to SVCD, with subs, and have the subs be all the way at the bottom. By the bottom, I mean the black bar area.

I encoded a divx quite nicely, but the subs are rather small and they lie with in the movie itself, making them rather hard to read.

I appreciate any info.
