short explanation of problem - tmpgenc dvd author w/ moving menu was too big, now i can't shrink it down to work w/ menu.

    explanation -

I used TMPGEnc to convert episodes in .mov format to their dvd format (.m2v & .wav). I then took this and put them (20 in all) in TMPGEnc DVD Author and it was 0.4gig too big. I figured no big idea because I could use DVD Shrink, InstantCopy, or one of the others to fit it on one disk once the dvd had been made.

I made a nice menu w/ moving menus and sound and various backgrounds then authored the dvd (end size is 4.9gig).

have of the shrink programs won't open it, the others have errors. Intervideo DVD Copy ended up giving me a 4.35gig movie.

Here's the problem, when I put the vobs into nero or GEAR PRO, they both tell me that the ifo and vob have the same address.

I used ifoEdit to redo the vobsand redo everything (bup and ifos), but after everything is done, it tells me there are a bunch of errors, but then seems to fix the addressed of everything.

I check the movie on my comp before burning it and it's great, menu and everything. after I burn it to a dvd, i can't access the menu using the comp or the standalone.

please help, i don't want to have to redo my entire dvd.

If you had half a brain you would still have your M2V and WAV files and the TMPGEnc DVD Author project save file.

Even without the save file it shouldn't be that difficult to re-do the menu ... assuming you still have your M2V and WAV files.

If not then I guess this was a costly lesson.

Like Fulci says hopefully you still have the m2v and wav files...if not...well, you'll have to redo them.

    Anyway....
I had a similar problem with a DVD I did last week. IC7 would open it, but when reading the video it would crash. DVDshrink wouldn't even open it. So what I did was I had TMPGEnc write the ISO file (which I always do anyway), I then loaded the ISO into Daemon Tools and then ripped it with Decrypter, then IC7 opened and encoded it just fine.

I'm not sure what the difference was, and that is the first time I've had to do that but that worked for me.

The DVD original out of TMPGEnc DVD Author played just fine, so I couldn't understand why neither IC7 nor Shrink wouldn't open it.

John "FulciLives" Coleman - why did you even reply? the point of a reply is to help.

And i have absolutely everything, every m2v, wav, tda and tme i created using dvd author.

northcat_8 - thanks for the idea, i'll try it and see if it works.

thanks for the iso idea and ripping it, but i still get the same problem. know of any author tools that will reencode to fit the correct size?

i can't open the dvd w/ dvd2one b/c i used linear pcm audio and dvd2one doesn't recognize any audio tracks.

    Grrr....

I would just try authoring the DVD with TMPGEnc DVD Author again. Also since you are just barely over, I would go back and see if I could clip a little video or maybe change the bitrate on one of the files down a little to make the DVD fit.

I think it was just a fluke...I've only had that problem once and it was on an oversized DVD I authored.

Well why don't you convert all your WAV audio files to AC-3 audio files?

    Why do this?

Then everything will fit on a single DVD !!!

  8. Northcat_8 is right. Why don't you try to go back few steps and redo. I had the same problem this morning. Mine was 4.9 gb with my own designed menu. Tmpgenc dvd author warned me but I made the folder in my c drive any way. Then I used dvdshrink to shrink to the right side. Make sure you set automatic on dvdshrink when select compression. I had it burned 10 minutes later and test on my dvd player. It ran fine. Good luck.

before converting the audio, i figured out the new size of each of 20 files and figured it would be 6% over the limit (w/o menu).

So I ended up taking the .m2v and .wav files and putting them through TMPGEnc again to convert just the .wav to .mp2. (i don't have the ac3 codec). i just took what it told me were going to be the bites and made it 93% so I would have room for menu.

reauthored and burned. now it works like a charm. got it down to 4.34 just by changing the audio.

    thanks.
