  1. I use DVDShrink, Nero 6 & Ritek DVD-R's ( yellow label )

I have a Liteon 411S with the latest firmware ( loaded last night ! ). PC has a 1 gig CPU with 512Mb of memory.

I have quite a collection of coasters !

If I use DVDshrink & Nero 6 to backup my DVD's 99.9% of the time, I end up with a coaster that isn't even recognised my DVD players ( LG & PS2 ) and can't play on my PC ( PowerDVD ).

On the occasions it has worked, when I play the resulting DVD, it'll skip/pause at various points and eventually stop altogether. I've never managed to create a DVD that's watchable.

But ..... I if use Sonic MyDVD to create a slideshow of JPG's with menus and backing soundtrack, the resulting DVD works perfectly in all the players.

I'm at the point of giving up .... any ideas what the problem might be ?

I thought it might be the media, but that doesn't explain why they work for the slideshows.

Try the three musketeers DVDShrink -> imgtools classic (to create DVD image) -> DVDDecrypter (to burn).

I have a 411S Liteon and had the same problems with using the RITEK DVD-R discs. I upgraded my 411s to a 811s and now they burn great using firmware HS0P. From what I've read at the LITEON forum, the LITEON drives burn better with DVD+R media compared to the DVD-R media. Read up on the LITEON drives at the above link I provided. The auto bitsetting tool is great with the LITEON drives. Link below

It automatically sets the dvd to burn as a DVD-ROM, so it can be played back on dvd players that are not compatible with DVD+ or DVD+RW media. For example Panasonic dvd players only playback DVD-R. But if burning a DVD+R or DVD+RW disc with a LITEON dvd burner using the bitsetting tool the + media will play on Panasonic standalone dvd players.
