For some time I have been using DVD Lab Pro to author my DVDs and CloneDVD2 to burn them.
But today I am having a problem I don't quite know where it's happening: it's a 5Gb+ video that needs a DL R disc, and three times it stopped in the middle, ruining the burn.
My questions are:
1) What other reliable burners can I use to burn a DVD DL with authored DVD files?
2) Is there a way to burn an authored DVD in ImgBurn? Can't find a way around it.
3) Is there a way to burn a DVD DL in TMPGEnc DVD Author? I get a message that the file exceeds the disc capacity, so it's not seeing I am using a DL disc.

With imgburn you just select the 'build' option and import(open) the video_ts and audio_ts folder (not the files inside them) into the project.
Now I have never created a dvd in lab pro that needed a DL disl but I recall seeing somewhere some properties that you should set about layer breaks etc. I suspect that may be your problem. But there is a ferther problem inasmuch that if you are using a -R DL disk that layer break will not be recognised. So you must use +R media. -
While I was waiting for a comment to my query, I googled for ways to do what I wanted, and I found this for ImgBurn:
http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=4643
I did create several DL discs with DLP, but I never thought I should layer breaks manually with it. That is not my problem, I think, as all others did work properly. OTOS I always use +R media if I can, thought I don't see why -R wouldn't work here. -
What brand of DL discs are you using? Verbatim discs are about the only reliable one out there. ImgBurn should give you a choice of layer break positions when it sets up the burn. I've burned close to 100 VB DL+ discs on several different burners using ImgBurn and not one coaster yet.
If you are using ISO files, then you may not have a choice for layer breaks. I just burn the VIDEO_TS folder. ImgBurn can supply the blank AUDIO_TS folder for compatibility, so you don't need to add one yourself.

Presently I am using TDK DL +R, and it is an improvement over the former Philips DL +R I used.
I think TDK is quite reliable and I had not had any coasters, so that's why I was worried on what might be happening.
Usually I burn mkv files on SL and DL discs, so I never worried about layer break. ImgBurn provides such layer break alternatives, though I don't quite know which might be best for what.
In this case things went fine and the burn went through.
I never found quite much use for ISO, and I don't know how to handle them. Just know how to open them if one comes around.
It's quite recent this application I am doing of DL discs on regular vob files, as I always did my burns in SL discs with them. But some DVD discs I think are worth going the extra mile and do it properly.
With CloneDVD2 this process was quite straightforward, not really that much with ImgBurn. But ImgBurn is very reliable, so I might end up adopting it for DVD authoring too. -

You do understand that a "brand name" on a disc means absolutely ZERO!!
Check it in imgburn or dvdinfo and tell us who "actually" makes TDK media
I would not use their single layer media let alone DL media.
He was not just trying to blow smoke up your bumm...
Or you could just keep burning coasters.
DITTO!!
It's not a deal and you are not saving any money by buying other cheaper CRAP when you end up throwing them away. -
There are two different ways to make DL media. The process that Verbatim uses is called 2P (Photo Polymerization), and is known to create good quality disks, compatible with the vast majority of drives available today. Only one other company still uses this process to my knowledge and that is FTI---Falcon Technologies. Although 2P is the gold standard for making DL disks, it is wasteful, complicated and expensive. Many companies looked for a different process to cut costs.
The second process is called Inverse Stack. It has proved to be less reliable, with poorer support in the firmwares of our dvd burners. If you use IS disks, you are basically playing Russian roulette with your burns. The majority of DL media on the market is made using the IS process, and no one who understands dvd blank media trusts them.
Here is a paper from FTI explaining the two process. Warning, fairly large pdf file: http://falcon-media.net/pdf/white_papers/Difference%20between%202P%20DL%20and%20Invers...DL%20discs.pdf
FTI makes both types. If you want their 2P disks, buy the hub printable DL Falcon disks, which have proved to be the only reasonable substitute for Verbatim. Since you are in Brazil, they may not be available to you, so Verbatim may be the only choice.
If neither are available, I suggest making smaller dvd videos. -
About buying TDK DL discs instead of Verbatim, it was an honest mistake I did.
On the list on Digitalfaq.com, which unfortunately I did not read completely, they listed TDK as doing 1st class media... until 2006.
They are now made by Ritek. They are really Ritek R04-66.
The Verbatim should be MKM001. Next time I will buy one Verbatim, check they are that type and get the large package.
In any case, I've had zero coasters with this Ritek media until now when using ImgBurn and burning my mkv files. This problem I had with another software (CloneDVD2).
At the time, I did look for Verbatim (much more expensive over here than in the USA) and Falcon (not available here, and couldn't get a rep to ship them to Brazil). It was then when I misread the Digitalfaq list.
