  1. DVD ROM: Lite-On XJ-HD166S
    DVD Writer: NEC 2500A

i've used both drives to backup using three ripping programs: DVD Shrink (3.1.5), DVD Decrypter (3.2) and Smart Ripper (2.41).

all three programs stops ripping at 50%.

i've backedup 20 of other discs and have not had a problem. however, i'm a little perplexed with this particular one.

any ideas would be appreciated. thank you.

  2. Hey. I tried to backup that movie too but I did not encounter any problem. I was using Sony DRU-510A and DVD Decrypter.
Well, since you are not using the same drive as I am, it could be a drive problem.
Did you try to backup the entire disk (in opposed to movie only)?

  3. thanks for the confirmation zoneless. i think i know what the problem might be. when i watched the orig disk last night using a set top player, it had problems with pixelation and skipping. in looking at the disk, there seems to be a lot of sratches and might be the root cause.

The only likely causes ofthe problem you have described, would be errors on the disc or dust and crap on the lense of the readers, but seeinga s you have tried at least three different readeers i have to summise that the problems lies with the actual disc.

Is it bought? If so take it back for refund?

If it is rented or borrowed...TUT TUT

Im sure that was the problem, because DVD decrypter worked perfect for me with my Lite-On LDW 451s.. You can find numerous techniques on these boards on how to properly repair/cover up scratches and whatnot.

  6. With Smartripper you tried to rip the FILES to hd and not the MOVIE right?
This made a difference for me many times!

And after that just do your thing with DVDShrink or whatever you use.

    Hope it helps.

  7. Actually, I don't think you have a bad disk on your hands. I've used 2 different disks and had the EXACT same problem on both disks. The movie locks up exactly at 50%.

I'm trying it again by doing just the files per a previous post, but I'm not sure if that is going to work for me.

I've even tried skipping errors with DVD Decrypter and to got to over 8053 errors before I canceled it.

    shreez
