  1. I have been burning VCDs (encoded ok) with Nero for some time.
They are burned on 640 MB or 700MB CD-Rs and work perfectly on computer CD-ROM devices but not on DVD players, no matter what I do. The players says there is no disc, that you still need to insert a disc. It has happened in more than one model of DVD player, all claiming they could read Video-Cds as well.

I burn them with Nero as Video-CDs and it creates all folders for me, just like it should. The file is encoded as a .DAt file in the MPEGAV folder. but it doesnīt work on DVD players. I took off the autorun feature and they still wonīt be read. I tried to burn MPEg-1s encoded for NTSC, PAL and FILM. No luck on either format. What am I forgetting? the only thing I donīt remember if I did was to set "track at once"...(does it make a difference, anyway?. They all had only one video, not a sequence. All other steps from the tutorial have been followed carefully. Whatīs still wrong?

Thanks a lot for any input on that.

  2. It depends on the brand name of your DVD player. Some DVD players read everything like Pioneer and some are 50/50 like Apex and Samsung.

Personal experience; Burnt a VCD with Nero plays on the Pioneer, didn't on the Samsung. Both players supported CDRs.

    Things to consider:
-Does your DVD Player supports CDRs ?
Some brands of CDRs are more comatible with specific DVD -players.

    Check your player model:

    Hope this helps somewhat.

  3. Thanks for such a quick reply. Actually I have never seen it on a standalone DVD. My boss has tried it on his, and it didnīt work. I will check later whatīs his model. But I donīt think that is the problem. Many of our clients have received the VCD as well and none could see it. They have DVDs from different brands and models. So I assume is not a problem of the DVD, but my VCD. Here we are region code 04, but I guess Nero burns it without any of the regular DVD CSS code restraints, right? I encoded them with a powerful editing system called edit 5, by Discreet*. Nero checked the MPG file and turned out ok, so that shouldnīt by the problem either. I am more worried about the ISO restrictions and Nero not creating standard compliant Cd...

    Any other thoughts?
    thanks a lot

  4. Again, get the manual out for your DVD player. Does it say in the manual that it can read CD-R or CD-RW discs explicitly?

Many models and brands of DVD players are not designed to read CD-R or CD-RW media and not suprisingly, don't do it well.

As a test, try burning an audio CD on the same CD-R media and see if that works.

As for your clients not being able to play CD-R/W media, that could just be coincidence. Many common DVD player models don't play CD-R/W media well (e.g., most Sony models).
