Ritek G04's & Pioneer 105 wont burn @ 4X speed

Whenever I try to burn at 4X on my Pioneer 105 using Ritek G04's I get a Power Cilbration error, you hear the drive spin up,then stop,spins up again,then stops ..does this about 5-6 times then the error occurs (latest DVD Decrypter) This is at the very start of a burn so no coasters are happening, If I choose 2X speed it always works fine,I've tried 2 differant G04 batches with the same results ,any ideas? Thanks.

I had the same problem with 2/3 of a spindel pack of 25. Only 8 burned at 4x and the rest would only burn at 2x. Purchased the spindel at Merilit and I beleive it was a bad batch of DVD. Where did you buy your Ritek G04's?

I got the first batch from www.shop4tech.com , and the second batch from www.newegg.com , both batches were silver tops except the second batch had more of a smooth mirror like top and the first batch was more dull with a rough surface..both register as G04's in dvd decrypter.

update the firmware for your dvd writer. i think that will fix it

I was already running the latest firmware, I went ahead and ordered a pioneer 107d to replace it, I've gotten my moneys worth out of the 105 anyhow Thanks for the replies.
