  1. I've noticed that the DVD's that I burn occasionally stutter, often towards the end of the DVD on my standalone DVD player, but play fine on my computer. I searched the forum and others suggested this might be a media issue (cheap bad media - Digital Matrix DVD-R).

First of all, can I eliminite this problem by slowing down the burning speed? Right now, I backup DVD's using Mac The Ripper, DVD2OneX & Toast 6.0, using a Pioneer DVR-107D.

I hate to throw away a brand new spindle of DVD-R's. I've already sworn off DVD+R's after I discovered those play terribly on many stand-alone DVD players, and not at all on my iBook. I've also had this problem using FUJI & MEMOREX DVD+R's. Does anyone have any economical but reliable DVD-R's suggestions (brand and where to buy them)?

see the many threads on best media to buy.
use the search this forum feature.

as for speeds, you could burn at 1x speed,
but you would probably be looking
at an hour to burn each disc, with no
real gurantees, especially if it is a media
    issue. stay away from Memorex,
most well know brand of BAD cheap media.

I've had the same problem with crappy DVDPro and Princo DVD-R media. I've switched to Ritek, and have had zero problems with the hundreds of blanks I've used on many different players. They're also priced very competitively, going for about 80¢ a pop in 100-packs online.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  5. Has anyone tried Piodata's 8X DVD-R's?

According to Meritline.com, these are produced by Taiyo-Yuden (a respected brand) and available for around $1.50 for a 100 disc order and approved by Pioneer (I have a DVR-107D).

I've had very bad luck with PioData in the past, though I think they were their 4x discs. They had many compatibility problems, similar to Princo and DVDPro discs. Maybe they've switched manufacturers with their 8x media. If they are Taiyo-Yuden, you shouldn't have any problems with them.

  7. Went to FRY's and got some 4X DVD-R's, both Sony and Fuji. Had to buy five packs with jewel cases because their spindles (both Sony and Fuji) were made in Taiwan, while jewel cased DVD's are made in Japan.

Both Fuji's and Sony's seem to work well. I ordered a couple Piodata's 8x and am waiting for them.

It is totally cheap media causing this
when i first started out i was using DVDPro because they were like 80cents a disk at the 25 pack price. CHEAP!

but they did this all the time on my settop, and played fine on my desktop. Solution......... use my powerbook to export to my tv. works like a charm

but now i use TDK and Ritek, never ever had a problem like that since using these disks. amazing what just a little more $ will do
